Our Estate

Sourenee Tea Estate is situated in the picturesque Mirik Valley of Darjeeling district in West Bengal, India. The name Sourenee is a combination of two words: “Sour” – a kind of tree that grows in this region having some medicinal value and “Rani” which indicates ‘Queen of the Valley’.

The Estate covers an area of almost 137 hectares stretching at altitudes ranging between 700m to 1300m. The scenic beauty of the Estate and its surroundings are unparalleled and with an abundance of exotic flora & fauna, this Estate is ideal for Eco-Tourism, the infrastructure of which is being actively developed by the present management. Sourenee Tea Estate is more than 100 years old and has over the years yielded quality teas that has made the estate very popular amongst tea lovers all over the world. The old tea shrubs are systematically being replaced by new clone plants in stages to improve the productivity and enchance quality of the teas. This garden is mainly fed by rain-water which is available for nearly 8 to 9 months a year, irrigation facilities being extended to the areas required. Darjeeling Tea cannot be grown in any other part of the world because of its optimum favorable climate and the indigenous character of its soil and environment. It is this equity that was sought to be protected by the Tea Board and the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India and under theTRIPS Agreement of the WTO.

Darjeeling Tea has gained its rightful recognition and since been awarded the unique Geographic Indication which cannot be replicated. To satisfy the need and preference of the growing fraternity of health conscious tea drinkers, Sourenee Tea Estate has successfully completed the Organic Certification Process under the guidance and supervision of internationally acclaimed certification authority Control Union Certifications (earlier known as SKAL) and has been producing Organic Tea since April, 2009.Sourenee Tea Estate is also now HACCP (Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Point) certified byDNV, an International Body for Certification. We hold NOP, NPOP & JAS Certification issued by the Control Union.
